In the year 1948 Jaguar Cars (just like Standard-Triumph located in Coventry) astonished the entire automobile industry with the Jaguar XK 120. which resulted in the introduction of the Triumph Roadster 2000TR(A). The cylinder capacity was enlarged up to 2000 cc. The Triumph 1800 TR roadster was not quite the sports car John Black expected it to be. There where two models, the 18T Saloon and the 18 TR Roadster. They build the Triumph 1800 based on a Standard chassis and equipped with the 1800 engine they delivered to S.S. John Black and his people started right away to bring Triumph back on wheels again. In 1945 John Black decided to acquire Triumph and what was left of it, from that day his company was named "the Standard-Triumph Company". sports cars using "his" engines and decided that he had to build sports cars too. Standard delivered engines to Swallow Sidecar Company (soon thereafter to be known as Jaguar Cars) who build nice sports cars fitted with the Standard engines.

John Black, owner of Standard Motor Company, was thinking about how to improve his product-line of cars. In 1944 Triumph had no factory and no money left they ended in bankruptcy.Īfter the second world war Mr. Unfortunately the second world war spoiled their plans the entire factory was bombed by the German air strikes. In the year 1934 Donald Healey won the Rally of Monte Carlo in his class driving a Triumph Gloria. The engine was a Standard Vanguard based, cast-iron, long stroke, in-line four cylinder with a displacement of 1991cc. The TR 3 was the first production car, off factory, equipped with disc brakes on the front-wheels. The Triumph TR 3 is a no nonsense sports car very robust, simple and reliable, a true British sports car all over. The headlights are located way up in front of the bonnet looking a bit like frogeyes. Like the TR 2 the TR 3 shows a very remarkable body shape with deep door cut-outs and very nice flowing wing- and tail-lines. The Triumph TR 2 was the first sports car in the long, successful, Triumph TR history ending with the TR 8 in the mid-1980ies. At this price it’s also a realistic parts car with the hardtop as a bonus.The Triumph TR 3 is the successor of the Triumph TR 2 which was built from the year 1953 until the year 1955. It means the buyer has plenty of room to dig into restoration and get this TR back on the road.
